JWARS - Lessons learned

by Donald MacQueen

Abstract

JWARS is a simulation of theater level warfare that was developed at the US Department of Defense. Development started in 1995 and it consisted of over 1.1 million lines of Smalltalk before the program was canceled in October 2010 for 'budgetary' reasons. This experience report will be about the lessons learned during the development - what we did right, and what we did wrong.
